Diatomaceous Earth and Fire Ants

I have a small business growing tomato, pepper, and vegetable starts for farmers and local folks each spring. Because I use only organic products and no pesticides, herbicides, etc, I have some difficulty controlling fire ants.


I find that I can cover seed tables, sprinkle it around legs of tables and on the ground cover and the fire ants leave.

It doesn't kill the fire ants but it does move them. I am happy with that because there are fewer ticks with fire ants and all I want is them to move out of my greenhouses and garden.

Hello Jeanne,

Thank you for writing and contributing to how well Diatomaceous Earth works on fire ants.

I have found some ants (not all species) a lot tougher to kill than other species. It doesn't bother me though if they die or not. I'm just thrilled they are GONE!

Yes! It's extremely effective as a deter-ant ;)
